Dear Members of The Class of 2022, 2023 & 2024 and Parents,
It is hard to believe, but our students will be returning to school in just under a month. There have been many new and exciting things that have taken place this summer. Our summer staff is working incredibly hard to make sure that our building and modular classrooms are ready to go for the start of school. In addition, we continue to work on Open House and the start of the school year for students. Teachers continue to pour in to get ready for the school year and their excitement is palpable. We can’t wait for the start of school!
One of the most exciting items for the upcoming school year is that we will be a 1:1 School. What this means is that each of our students will be assigned a laptop that will stay with them throughout the school year. This will not only provide important access for our students to a whole new world of information, but it will allow our teachers to modify their teaching methods to reflect 21st Century Learning Skills. It will allow our students a better opportunity to compete with students from across the State of Ohio.
Students will receive their devices as a part of Open House. As you can imagine, distributing 900 plus devices, tied to each individual student will require a lot of planning and a lot of patience. Thus, our Open House this year will look a little different.
6th Grade Open House will take place after Camp Jr. Wildcat on Monday, August 7th. We will begin distributing laptops at 5:45 and will start our official Open House program at 6:45. Please be flexible, as this will be our first time distributing laptops and using the new tracking system. We expect some long lines, but we will work to make sure that everyone receives their device and we confirm that each device is working properly. The Open House will begin in our Café, and we will move to the gym for the presentation.
7th & 8th Grade Open House will take place on Tuesday, August 8th. We will have two separate programs to assist in minimizing the lines. We will begin distribution of 8th Grade devices at 5:30 and present at 6:30 in the gym. 7th Grade devices will be distributed starting at 6:15 in the Café and we will begin their presentation at 7:15.
For students to receive their device, a parent and student must complete 1:1 Device User Agreement Form. This form can be completed in the Harrison Junior School office, or you can sign it at open house. However, please remember that both a parent and the student must sign the form.
Following each presentation, parents will be invited to tour the building, the new modular classrooms, and meet their child’s teacher(s). We will also offer an opportunity for parents/students to purchase Wildcat gear from the Spirit Shop, join the PTA, and pay their school fees.
Here is how you can help as a parent. Below is a link to our online forms program. Please go in prior to Open House and complete the online forms. We are asking for 100% participation in online forms. Please complete the “Initial School Registration2017-18” forms online.
